Smart Home Security Alarm Systems and Integration with Automation

A security Alarm System is comprised of a main central Panel (the heart of the system), Keypads, Sensors and Detectors, Sirens and Sounders and Flasher, and of course the Phone/GSM Dialler to get alarm notifications/calls/sms/messages out to the users. All of which are powered by battery backups. Professional alarms systems will have certification, for example the German standard VDS Certification for security. In addtion, the installer is required to be Licensed and Certified by the Cyprus Police to install Security Systems. Using an installer that is not licensed is not only illegal (for both the customer and the Installer) but also very dangerous to the user.... it could be the burglar that is installing your alarm.... careful!

Smart Home Burglar and Fire Alarm Systems

  • Central Alarm Panel
    In an ideal scenario, all sensors, sirens, detectors, keypads, PSTN/GSM Diallers are wired to the main panel and are constantly being monitored for trigger or tamper/sabotage. Therefore the Panel needs to be Rock Solid and from a respectable manufacturer. Avoid Wireless sensors and alarms whenever possible as these not only prone to jamming but also require regular maintenance and battery replacement. This is not only costly but also not very environmentally friendly. The most reliable alarm system is a wired one.
  • Battery Backup Power
    Without proper (and enough) backup battery power, the alarm system is useless. In addition, the Outdoor Siren(s) should have their own dedicated battery (so that it will keep sounding even if its ripped off the wall and the wires are cut). The battery of the outdoor siren in almost all systems is forgotten or unavailable from some installers. This should not be overlooked as it is very critical.
  • Sensors and Detectors
    If your alarm system is an open standard, Detectors from different manufacturers can be mixed and matched. Passive Infrared (PIR) Motion detectors are the most common sensor in an alarm, these include single, duplex, and even Microwave sensors. Laser Beams, Shock/Vibration Detectors, Smoke and Heat Sensors, Flood Detection/Water leak sensors, Panic Buttons, Opening Detectors/Magnetic Contacts can all be added to the system.
  • PSTN/GSM Phone Dialler
    Without a doubt the most important part of the alarm system. No alarm is complete without having multiple ways to communicate with the user to notify of normal actions (eg Daily Heartbeat, System Armed/Disarmed), but more importantly to call out in the event of a burglar, or fire, or panic alarm.
